Our Story
Habesha Kitchen was founded in 1995 by Chef Alemayehu Tadesse, who brought his family's traditional Ethiopian recipes from the heart of Gondar to Addis Ababa. What started as a small family restaurant has grown into a beloved local institution, serving authentic Ethiopian cuisine for over 25 years.
Our name "Habesha Kitchen" celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Ethiopia, and we strive to provide not just authentic flavors, but also beautiful experiences that bring families and friends together around the traditional mesob (basket table).
Every dish we serve is prepared with the same love and attention to detail that Chef Alemayehu learned from his grandmother in the ancient city of Gondar. We believe that great food is about more than just taste โ it's about tradition, family, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
